In Matthew 19:14, Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of Heaven.”
On Sunday morning our church family will open the doors to one of the most ambitious, spectacular facilities ever attempted by a local church, and it’s JUST FOR KIDS! In 2007 we began raising funds to expand our current facilities, thinking a wing would be sufficient to accommodate all the children God was bringing to Crossroads. Fairly quick our leaders realized adding a wing wouldn’t even come close, and the decision was scrapped from building two wings on our current building to instead, building two completely separate buildings. One for children. One for teenagers. Both would be 75,000 sq. ft. in size and would be solely for kids.
Half of that dream becomes reality this weekend as we open our new children’s building. It’s a magnificent facility, as you will soon see. When we began, our dream was to create an incredible, one-of-a-kind place that would be just for kids. But also a place that would make every parent wish they were a kid again. That dream has become a reality, and we can’t wait for our community to see it and experience it for themselves.
Here is a list of those who helped design and build this massive project:
LVH Entertainment Systems
I also want to thank Mel Dietz, who has partnered with me on every building project I’ve been involved with for the past 30 + years. Our staff has a played a critical role as well. Thank you, Matt, Vicki, Nathan, Alan, Steve and Pam Siddle, Josh, Kelli, Terri, Steve Ivy, Michelle, and all of our staff who’ve helped us get to this day.
Two of the most exciting features of this new facility aren’t even inside. I’m talking about the huge outdoor baptistery we’ve added and the incredible sculpture next to it. The outdoor baptistery surrounded by fountains, fabulous landscaping, including shade trees, and plenty of space for large numbers of people to watch, will be used by our entire church family to celebrate every new addition to God’s family. The sculpture of Jesus and four children, representing all the children of the world, will be part of a breathtaking display that includes a waterfall wall, palm trees, boulders and landscaping replicating the Holy Land where Jesus uttered those immortal words: “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of Heaven” (Matthew 19:14). Our prayer is thousands of children and adults will come to know Jesus personally because of this great project.
Thanks to the blessing of God and the generosity of our Crossroads’ family, every aspect of this spectacular structure, inside and out, was paid for before we ever broke ground. Now we have the opportunity to use this new tool to bless thousands and build God’s kingdom. I hope you’ll join us for our dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony at 8:00 a.m. in front of our new children’s building this Sunday morning. Or, that you’ll take the time after one of our worship services to peek in and see what God has done and is doing in the lives of our kids.
This Sunday’s date, August 9, will forever be special in our hearts. Certainly because we are seeing the dream of our new children’s building become a reality. But also because August 9 was our very first service here. It seems like yesterday our family moved from Florida to begin our ministry. We began with 188 and today, over 7,000 people call Crossroads their church home. Who knows what will happen when we open the doors on Sunday.
23 years ago we had no idea what God was about to do. Nothing’s changed.
