YOU'VE GOT TO KNOW WHEN TO FOLD ‘EM

“After more than half a century in the music business, Kenny Rogers, knows when to fold ‘em. Friday morning, September 25, on Today, Rogers announced he plans to retire from the road.”1

The country music superstar has sold over 125 million albums. His movie, The Gambler, was one of the top rated TV movies of all time and he had the #1 selling duet of all time with Dolly Parton, “Islands in the Stream.” He’s also been married five times and has five children, including two 11-year-old twins.

Rogers has been in the business for six decades and produced 76 albums. He told Today co-hosts, Savannah Guthrie and Carson Daly, “I’ve done this long enough. I wrote in my book that sometimes there’s a fine line between being driven and being selfish.”2 He said he didn’t have the chance to spend a lot of time with his older boys and he regrets that now. “I really want to be there with my kids and with my wife. They’re very important to me, and I want to see them. That’s my goal.”2

According to USA TODAY, Rogers said, “I’m getting to where I don’t walk around well ... my mobility’s really driving me crazy.”3

But he’s not going to walk away just yet. He’s just released a new album, ONCE AGAIN IT’S CHRISTMAS, and he begins his North American holiday tour in Ontario, Canada November 11. Then, he wants to do a worldwide “Farewell Tour” in 2016 “before hanging up his cowboy hat and boots.” He said his final tour will be all live concerts. Cities and dates will be announced soon.

One has to wonder if Kenny will get to go home and be with his kids before his health gets worse or completely fails. Why wait? Why not go home now and call it a career? Surely he has enough money to live comfortably for however many more years he has here on this earth, and to also leave more than enough for his family.

Kenny Rogers is well known as “The Gambler,” but Kenny — and every dad out there — when it comes to your kids and your family ...

“You’ve got to know when to hold ‘em!”
