THREE GREAT CHRISTMAS CHALLENGES

By Barry Cameron
December 04, 2015

This is going to be incredibly hard for some of you to believe, but it’s absolutely true. Even though CHRISTMAS is the celebration of JESUS’ birth, He isn’t even on most people’s Christmas list. Hard to believe? It’s true. Christmas comes and Christmas goes and they get all kinds of gifts. But JESUS gets nothing. Zip. Zero. Zilch. And it happens year after year.

That’s why I’m challenging you to join me THIS CHRISTMAS and let’s change this.

#1 – Let’s not only make sure JESUS is on our Christmas list, let’s make sure He’s on the TOP of our Christmas list. How are we going to do it? I’m challenging every person who calls CROSSROADS their church home to help us fill the MANGER to overflowing this year with gifts for JESUS. We’ll have special Christmas Love Offering envelopes at every Welcome Center and in every program when you come to worship, and we’ll do that for every service, including Christmas Eve. I’m challenging you, and asking you to challenge every member of your family this Christmas, to give a generous love gift to JESUS. Bring it and place it in the manger in our main lobby. Wondering how much is enough? Each of us should give in accordance with the blessings we’ve received from God. If we’ve been blessed much, we should give much.

As always, anything we give in a love offering should be over and above our regular giving to Crossroads. This love offering will be used to help remodel all of the lobby areas, hallways, the Grand Hall, the Chapel area, and the upstairs areas our kids used before we opened the new children’s building. This remodeling project will be the largest in our history. We will do as much of it as we can with volunteer labor and would like to begin early in the New Year. However, we need to raise a significant amount of money to do it. Your prayers and generosity will help us do it.

Will you accept the challenge and help us fill the MANGER?

#2 – I challenge you to improve your standard of giving for the coming year. Every one of us is interested in improving our standard of living each year. But how many of us take time to pray about and prepare to improve our standard of GIVING? When was the last time you increased what you give to God and His church? I’m not just talking about Change for a Dollar, and the “one dollar more” we’ve challenged our people to give this year to help people in need in our community. I’m talking about increasing what we give to God and His church through our tithes and offerings.

Will you accept the challenge to pray about and prepare to IMPROVE and INCREASE YOUR STANDARD OF GIVING in the New Year? Beginning on the first Sunday of the New Year — January 3, 2016?

#3 – Will you join me and automate your giving to Crossroads each week, if you haven’t already? A large portion of our church family uses online giving and have for a long time. We always have the capability to give in one of our giving boxes when we come to worship on Sundays — something I still do, in addition to online giving, every week.

If you haven’t done so already, let me challenge you to set up online giving (which is simple to do) through your bank or financial institution, so your tithes and offerings are set up for all 52 weeks of the New Year. I’ve said before, this is the only area of our Christian life we can make automatic. With online giving, it doesn’t matter whether we’re out of town on business, gone on vacation, sick or something else, our tithes and offerings can always be given to God and His church.

Will you accept the challenge to begin online giving to Crossroads in the New Year? As a matter of fact, you don’t have to wait until the New Year. You can start today. If you need help or have questions, call the church office and any of our staff will be more than happy to assist you.

Each of the three challenges above are CHRIST-honoring and GOD-glorifying. What’s more, each of them will enable you and our church to reach, teach, train, and send more people with the Gospel of JESUS CHRIST to a lost and dying world, who desperately need it.

Will you accept the challenge this CHRISTMAS?
