In just a few days, we'll close the door on 2019 and will also close the door on another decade. People all around the world will get the chance to begin again — to start over. With new calendars, new plans, new resolutions, new commitments, new ideas and new dreams. People everywhere will believe again that anything is possible and rightly so — because it is.
As we get ready to begin a new year and a new decade, may I suggest a powerful passage of Scripture that can absolutely transform your life, your family, your work, your dreams and your eternal destiny? It’s Psalm One. Not only is it a great way to begin the 150 Psalms God has given us, but it is also a terrific way to start a new year and a new decade — which is also a gift God alone will give (James 4:13-16).
Here is Psalm One in three different translations to give you three different perspectives. I hope you enjoy it, take it to heart and pass it on to others.
I also hope 2020 is the greatest year you’ve ever experienced.
Here’s a terrific way to start a new year and a new decade – which is also a gift from God (James 4:13-16.)
The New Living Translation
“Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do. But not the wicked. They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind. They will be condemned at the time of judgment. Sinners will have no place among the godly. For the Lord watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction.”
New American Standard
“How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but they are like chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.”
AND HERE’S MY PERSONAL FAVORITE ...
“How well God must like you – you don’t hang out at Sin Saloon, you don’t slink along Dead-End Road, you don’t go to Smart-Mouth College.
Instead you thrill to God’s Word, you chew on Scripture day and night. You’re a tree replanted in Eden, bearing fresh fruit every month, never dropping a leaf, always in blossom.
You’re not at all like the wicked, who are mere windblown dust — without defense in court, unfit company for innocent people.
God charts the road you take. The road they take is Skid Row.”
I can’t say it any better than that. In fact, all I’ll add is my prayer for you is this coming year will be the absolute best of your life!
