FIVE THINGS YOU WANT TO DO BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR

Imagine what it would be like if we could put exercise on auto-pilot and get in better shape every week of the new year. Exercise would never get crowded out by other priorities. We’d never be too tired or too busy. Exercise would happen automatically. Every day. We wouldn’t even have to think about it. Nothing would hinder us from working out and enjoying the results of a happier, healthier life.

Talk about the perfect world.

Unfortunately, we can’t make exercise automatic, but there are some things we can make automatic and the results will be nonetheless amazing.

Here they are:

#1 – GIVING. Set up automated giving from your financial institution. It’s simple to do and the results will be amazing. Like exercise, if we only give when we feel like it or when we have some extra funds lying around, we won’t be giving much. Superficial giving won’t result in supernatural blessing. However, if we make our giving automatic every week, God’s blessing will be as well (Malachi 3:10-12; Matthew 6:19-24).

#2 – SAVING. For years I’ve encouraged people to follow the 10/10/80 plan – 10% to God, 10% to savings and 80% to live on. It’s the simplest, yet most genius financial plan I’ve ever seen for everyone to begin. Just as you set up a draft from your bill-paying account for giving, you can also set up a specific amount to go directly into savings. You should always put more in savings than you think you can, because the dividends you’ll receive from that one decision are way worth it. We spend money automatically. We should save it automatically.

#3 – RETIREMENT. Make an automatic contribution to your retirement every week of your life. If your business or company provides a 401(k), max it out every year, automatically.

#4 – BILLS. Take the time before the end of the year to make all of your bills automatic. You won’t waste time paying them every week and won’t have to worry about remembering to do it. Psalm 37:21 says, “The wicked borrows but does not pay back …” Christians should be the most reliable, dependable people on the planet. We should pay our bills and pay them on time. Making it automatic will do that.

#5 – COLLEGE/SPECIAL PURCHASES. Most people don’t budget for college or special purchases. But we all should and it’s easy to do. Again, just set up a draft from your bill-paying account at your financial institution into a special fund that will earn interest and build until you have the amount you need.

Imagine what it would be like if we could put exercise on auto-pilot and get in better shape every week of the new year.

By doing these five things you will absolutely change your life and the lives of every member of your family.

Unfortunately the exercise part of our lives we can’t make automatic, but we can and should make it a high priority. The financial part we can make automatic and the results will be absolutely amazing.

Don’t wait until the end of the year or the beginning of next year.

Do it now!
