Wayne Smith used to tell the story of a small church in southern Indiana that had completed a week of revival services. Seems the church was barely struggling to get by and had scraped together all the funds available just to cover the expenses.
At the board meeting following the revival, a motion was made to cancel plans for any future revivals since there was only one decision made and it had been a little boy. The motion was seconded, followed by an instant third.
Everyone seemed in agreement until one of the board members stood to his feet and asked to be recognized.
As he began to speak, he pulled out his checkbook and began writing a check. “Gentlemen,” he said, “I happen to think our recent revival was the greatest one this little church has ever had and because of that, I'm writing a check to reimburse every single expense we incurred. You see, the little boy who made the decision was my grandson!”
That man measured the success of the revival not by, “How much did it cost?” but rather by, “Whose life was changed?”
Using that same standard of measurement for Crossroads, you’d have to consider this ministry an incredible success. Why? Because of the thousands of lives that have been changed and are being changed every year.
“Once we get to Heaven, no one will be asking, “Was it worth it?” Instead, we’ll all be saying, “We could’ve done more, we could’ve attempted more, we could’ve reached more!””
One of the more remarkable things that has characterized our church from the very beginning is, our people don’t sit around asking, “How much will this cost?” Rather, Crossroads’ people say, “WHATEVER IT TAKES!”
Once we get to Heaven, no one will be asking, “Was it worth it?” Instead, we’ll all be saying, “We could’ve done more, we could’ve attempted more, we could’ve reached more!”
Will you recommit yourself today, that from this day forward we will do everything we can to reach everyone we can with the Gospel of JESUS CHRIST?
One thing’s for sure: The cost of not doing it will always be higher than the cost of doing it! Let’s be a people who live, love, work and breathe:
“WHATEVER IT TAKES!”
