Ron Carlson, faithful friend for over 30 years who also served as one of our missionaries before he died in June of 2011, shared this Christmas story with me years ago. I thought you’d enjoy it. It’s a good one.
“Once upon a time, a perfect man and a perfect woman met. After a perfect courtship, they had a perfect wedding.
Their life together was … of course, perfect.
One snowy, stormy Christmas Eve, this perfect couple was driving their perfect car along a winding road, when they noticed someone at the side of the road in distress. Being the perfect couple, they stopped to help.
There stood Santa Claus with a huge bundle of toys. Not wanting to disappoint any children on the eve of Christmas, the perfect couple loaded Santa and his toys into their vehicle. Soon they were driving along delivering all the toys.
Unfortunately, the driving conditions deteriorated and the perfect couple and Santa Claus had an accident. Only one of them survived.
Now, here’s the big question: Who was the survivor?
The perfect woman survived. She’s the only who really existed in the first place. Everyone knows there’s no such thing as a perfect man and, well … you know the rest of it.”
We have been blessed way beyond what we deserve.
This year our family will be celebrating our 27th Christmas at Crossroads. I am so thankful you were willing to take a chance on an imperfect pastor and his family back in 1992. We have been blessed way beyond what we deserve and realize that, “Every good and perfect gift comes from above” (James 1:17). Without question, having the privilege to serve as your Pastor is one of the greatest gifts of my entire life. One I will be thanking God for the rest of my life. We love you more now and are more excited than ever to serve alongside all of you, helping people get connected to God and to one another.
From our house to yours, may this be the most blessed Christmas of your life and as we look to the new year, may God’s hand be upon us like never before (Psalm 90:17).
