SUPER BOWL LIII (53) will be played in Chick-fil-A’s hometown of Atlanta on Sunday night, February 3. However, the incredibly popular fast-food chain restaurant has no plans to alter its long-standing policy to be closed on Sunday.
The company, founded in 1946 by Truett Cathy and his brother, Ben, has become one of the most loved and respected restaurants chains in the world. With over 2,100 restaurants in the U.S., the company is now considering international expansion and surpassed $10.5 billion last year. According to Entrepreneur magazine, Chick-fil-A makes more per restaurant than McDonald’s, Starbucks and Subway combined.
… AND THEY DO THAT BEING CLOSED ON SUNDAY!
From the very beginning Truett Cathy based his life and business on biblical principles. The restaurant chain, well-known for its signature statement, “It’s my pleasure!”, made by every employee when they serve you, is even more well-known for its signature commitment, putting God FIRST. The company policy, which they have followed for over seven decades, gives employees a much deserved day off but also reflects Mr. Cathy’s commitment to honor the Lord’s Day — one that was non-negotiable when Mr. Cathy was alive and one the company enthusiastically upholds today.
Nobody will ever go wrong basing their life and business on biblical principles.
So it was no surprise when the announcement came that even though the SUPER BOWL would be coming to Atlanta, Chick-fil-A would be closed. It’s one of the most popular spots in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. But even with the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots in town, and more than one hundred thousand potential customers, it was an easy decision for the company to make. It’s one of their core values they refuse to compromise.
Every company in America could learn a lot from Chick-fil-A. So could every Christian. Nobody will ever go wrong basing their life and business on biblical principles. There’s a reason there’s always a line at Chick-fil-A, and it’s not the chicken. What do they know that other businesses don’t? What’s their secret? Simply stated, they understand The FIRST THINGS belong to God and even when the Super Bowl came calling, because of their commitment to Him, they didn’t even have to think for a second about not putting God FIRST!
