Have you noticed our world has an obsession with superheroes? For example, today is DAY ONE of the latest superhero scenario served up by Hollywood. It’s called AVENGERS: Endgame, the 22nd film in the MARVEL Cinematic Universe which sold five times as many tickets on Fandango during its first seven days of advance ticket sales than the previous hit, INFINITY WAR sold during the first week the movie was out. They are anticipating it will have the highest opening weekend ever at the box office, grossing somewhere in the neighborhood of $260 million to $285 million.

No doubt one reason is the fact this movie includes more superheroes than you can imagine. Which may explain the three hour and one minute length — to get everyone some screen time. The list includes IRON MAN, CAPTAIN AMERICA, HULK, THOR, BLACK WIDOW, HAWKEYE, WAR MACHINE, ANT-MAN, (sorry, couldn’t resist), BLACK PANTHER, CAPTAIN MARVEL and SPIDER-MAN.

So why are so many obsessed with superheroes? Because everyone’s looking for a Savior – whether they know it or not. The problem is ... too many look to HOLLYWOOD instead of HEAVEN. That’s why Hollywood has to keep rolling out new superheroes year after year.

Even though this most recent AVENGERS is called ENDGAME don’t believe it. This won’t be the final movie, nor will these be the final superheroes.

Initially, Hollywood’s moving pictures (pun intended) make people believe. But eventually people realize Hollywood’s heroes are “make believe.” They really can’t leap tall buildings, fly all over the universe, eliminate crime, destroy nuclear warheads with their bare hands, prevent catastrophes, save everyone, etc.

This won’t be the final movie, nor will these be the final superheroes.

Truth is, Hollywood’s superheroes can’t save anyone. Except the jobs of studio execs whose future depends on bringing in big bucks at the box office.

There’s only One Who can save the universe and everyone in it and that’s JESUS CHRIST. Acts 4:12 says, “There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

This weekend, come to Crossroads and meet JESUS – the world’s One and Only Savior.

And don’t look for a cape ... just look for a cross.
