• The Only Place to Stand

In the 1800s, a 30-year-old man named Russell Kelso Carter, battled a severe health crisis that brought him to his knees. He was diagnosed with a critical heart condition, at age 30, and was facing imminent death. His doctors said there was nothing more they could do. So Mr. Carter turned to God for help, hope and healing. Ironically, he had written a song, years before, that became his theme song. Maybe it should be ours, too!

Here are a couple of lines from that song Mr. Carter wrote:

“Standing on the promises I cannot fall,

Listening every moment to the Spirit’s call.

Resting in my Savior as my all in all.

Standing on the promises of God.”

Russell Carter lived 49 more years and died at the age of 79, still standing on the promises of God.

Dr. David Jeremiah said, “A biblical promise is a tightly-wrapped, power-packed, portable capsule of Scripture, written by God and designed to meet a specific need in your life at a specific time and in a way that corresponds perfectly to His all-sufficient grace. The promises of God are His guarantees amid life’s uncertainties. They’re the basis of all our life of faith, and there are specific promises in the Bible to meet every condition and contingency in our lives.”

The ONLY firm footing in this shaky world of ours is to STAND ON THE PROMISES OF GOD!

  1. God has promised to supply every need we have (Philippians 4:19).
“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”

  2. God has promised His grace is sufficient for us (2 Corinthians 12:9).
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

  3. God has promised to be there for us and never leave us (Hebrews 13:5).
“God has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’”

Psalm 37:25 is a verse every child of God should memorize. David said, “I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread.”

  4. God has promised that He will have the last word (Hebrews 9:27).
“And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.”

In 2 Corinthians 5:10, Paul reminds us, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he as done in the body, whether good or evil.

  5. God has promised that somehow all things will work together for good (Romans 8:28 & 31).

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”

Verse 31, “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”

  6. God has promised that evil will not prevail (1 John 5:4).
“For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.”

  7. God has promised that we will have ultimate victory (1 Corinthians 15:57).
“But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Here’s the bottom line: The ONLY firm footing in this shaky world of ours is to STAND ON THE PROMISES OF GOD!

As we conclude another year at CROSSROADS, we are so thankful for the BLESSINGS of GOD. And as we begin the new year, 2019?

We’re gonna’ STAND on the PROMISES of GOD.
