We've entered into a partnership with a brand new church plant in Denver, Colorado. Led by Michael and Mindi Winakur, Cross Culture Church began on February 21 of this year. Michael graduated with a degree in Pastoral Leadership from Vanguard University and is currently working on his Masters at Denver Seminary.

Michael and Mindi have been married for nine years and have two sons: Mason (5) and Marek (21 months). After serving as the Youth Pastor at Southeast Christian Church in Parker, CO, for more than five years, God led Michael and Mindi to plant a new church in northeast Denver/north Aurora by Denver International Airport. Studies reveal there are already 500,000 people who live within ten miles of where Cross Culture Church is located.

Michael said, “My passion for Cross Culture Church is that we transform our city and beyond by working through the people of Cross Culture Church. Everyone is a minister, and my hope is that neighborhoods and cities are changed for the glory of Jesus Christ because everyday people are displaying and declaring the good news of Jesus Christ. In the next twelve months, we hope to have a permanent presence through a building of some kind — a facility that is a house of the Lord dedicated to worship and teaching, as well as being a community resource. In the next five years we hope to be at three campuses focused on influencing the neighborhood and communities in the northeast Denver area. My dream is that, like Crossroads Christian Church, we are a church that reaches the lost and disciples them to make disciples. At Cross Culture Church there isn’t room for people wanting to be spectators for very long. We want them to be people who become more like Christ, take up their cross and call others to do the same.”

Janis and I had the privilege of worshipping with Cross Culture Church on Labor Day weekend. It was amazing to see all they were doing and all who were coming … and they are only six months old. We were impressed that in such a young church there was already so much energy and diversity.

Because our top priority is reaching people for Christ …

Michael shared with me, “When God gave me the vision to plant Cross Culture Church, He used some of the most unexpected experiences in my life. I remember growing up in a diverse, lower income area in Phoenix, AZ. There were people from all walks of life in that neighborhood. I specifically remember, next door to me lived a woman who would have men coming in and out of her house at all times of the day. She had three boys from three different men. She seemed crazy. One day she knocked on our door and began to tell us about how she found JESUS as her Lord and Savior. My family, who hadn’t been walking with the Lord for awhile, was inspired by her story. Brenda (her name), her boys and my family began to do life together and go to church together. Before we knew it, we began to lead other neighbors to Christ. Brenda used to say, ‘The image of God is best represented when all cultures and generations work together for Christ.’ At Cross Culture Church, we are a ‘Church of great neighbors who display and declare the good news of Jesus Christ.’ When you attend our church, you will find every nation and tongue represented. Our hope is to be a church that is united, invested and lives beyond Sunday. Our main focus is Sunday morning worship, missional life groups and doing outreach in our community. We have already seen over 70 people come to Christ and become part of our church in the first six months. We have baptized over 30 people and are excited to have more signed up for next month.”

We’re excited to welcome Michael, Mindi, Mason and Marek, and the entire Cross Culture Church family to our Crossroads’ family as we partner together to reach more people for Christ. I’m asking you to pray for them and for God’s blessing upon them and, if you are out in the Denver area, join them for worship at 10:00 a.m. Here is their website: crossculturedenver.org, and here is where they meet: MLK Jr. Early College (19535 E 46th Ave. Denver).

Welcome Cross Culture Church & the Winakurs! We can’t wait to see what God does in Denver!
