FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Below is a list of frequently asked questions about Crossroads. We hope you can find what you are looking for. If you have a question that does not appear on this list, please contact us and let us know how we may help you.
Q: What does it mean that Crossroads is a non-denominational church? ▾
A: It simply means that we are not associated, affiliated or connected with any denomination, man-made organization or institution. Our only allegiance is to the Lord and His Word. We can fellowship with brothers and sisters of Christ anywhere at any time without answering to a national headquarters somewhere.
Q: Crossroads has had 5 pastors in her history - will there be a 6th? ▾
A: Our pastor has been here since August of 1992, and plans to stay here until Jesus comes or he’s called home to Heaven.
Q: Does Crossroads emphasize and support missions? ▾
A: Absolutely. We currently support over 20 missions/ministries. Click here for more information about our missions’ program here at Crossroads.
Q: People are baptized by immersion here - why is that? ▾
A: Because Jesus commands it. (Matthew 28:18-20). Baptism must picture three realities to be a Scriptural baptism: death, burial and resurrection. Why? Because water baptism is our public identification with Christ as Lord and Savior, and our baptism pictures His death, burial and resurrection. (See Romans 6:1-4.)
Q: Is sprinkling an acceptable form of baptism? ▾
A: Not according to the Bible. How can it picture Christ’s death, burial and resurrection? There is no account in the Scriptures of anyone ever being sprinkled.
Q: If I was baptized by sprinkling, should I be baptized by immersion? ▾
A: What do you think God wants you to do? What His Word says or something else? We will always encourage you to do what God’s Word says.
Q: Do I have to be baptized (by immersion) to get connected as a member of Crossroads? ▾
A: Yes. The Bible says the Lord “added to the church” those who were being saved and baptized. (Acts 2:41 and 47). That’s why, to get connected as a member of Crossroads, you need to have a personal salvation experience with the Lord and should immediately be obedient to Him in water baptism. (See Acts 8:36-39; 9:17-18; 10:47-48; 16:31-33.)
Q: If I was baptized (by immersion) in another church, do I have to be baptized again to get connected as a member of Crossroads? ▾
Q: You observe the Lord’s Supper here every week, Why is that? ▾
Q: The Bible seems to be a high priority around Crossroads, Why is that? ▾
A: We believe the Bible is the inspired, inerrant Word of God and is the ultimate authority and our only source for truth. (See 2 Timothy 3:16-17.)
Q: Preaching seems to be another high priority around Crossroads, Why is that? ▾
Q: Does this church have business meetings? ▾
A: No. Our church is led by a plurality of godly elders who “direct the affairs of the church” in accordance with the Word of God. (See 1 Timothy 5:17.) Responsibilities are delegated to staff members, deacons, church members, etc., under the oversight of the elders.
Q: How does someone become an elder? ▾
A: See the Starting Point material (available by attending our Starting Point Class) for complete information on selection and standards for leadership here at Crossroads.
Q: What’s the difference between an elder and a deacon? ▾
A: Biblically, elders are to “direct the affairs of the church” and serve as the spiritual overseers. (See 1 Timothy 5:17; Acts 20:17-31; 1 Peter 5:1-4.) Deacons are “servants” (literally the meaning of the word – 1 Timothy 3:8-10) who have the responsibility for serving the physical needs of the fellowship.
Q: Can women serve as elders or deacons here or be ordained as pastors? ▾
A: To be Biblical, women cannot serve as elders or deacons. Just as God has given the responsibility of headship in the home to the man (Ephesians 5:22-6:4), He has also given the responsibility for church leadership to men as well. (For more information on this subject, get the CD “What The Bible Says About The Role Of Women In The Church.” Available in our bookstore.)
Q: What role do women have at Crossroads? ▾
A: Crossroads wouldn’t have a ministry without women. We thank God for the hundreds of godly women who serve in our ministry. There are a myriad of opportunities for women to serve here. We have a number of women on staff, including a women’s minister. In obedience to God’s Word, they are not ordained and do not have the responsibility of teaching men. They do have the blessing and covering of our leadership to serve in our ministry and do an outstanding job.
Q: Is Crossroads a charismatic church? ▾
A: No. We are a “Spirit-filled” church (1 Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 5:18). We believe the initial evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit is the power to witness (Acts 1:8), not to speak in tongues. We believe the gifts of the Spirit are not toys to play with, but rather tools to build with, and must always be used to build and bless the body of Christ. (For more information on this subject, get the series “Spiritual Gifts” or the series on “The Book of Acts.” There are a number of other excellent resources in our bookstore as well.)
Q: Do I need to attend Starting Point before getting connected as a member of Crossroads? ▾
A: We recommend everyone attend Starting Point so your decision is an informed one and also because we want you to fully understand what it means to be connected here and what is expected of you. We want everyone to have a solid foundation for ministry and service so they can become a vital part of our Crossroads’ family.
Q: After I attend Starting Point, what's the next step to get connected as a member? ▾
A: We ask you to make your decision publicly, in accordance with Matthew 10:32-33, by coming forward during the decision time at the close of one of our Sunday or Wednesday services. To get connected as a member, you must have a personal salvation experience with Jesus Christ and be obedient to Him in baptism. If you haven’t done that, that’s step one, and you can do that when you come forward. If you’ve already accepted Christ and been baptized by immersion, you do not have to be baptized again. When you come forward, we’ll have counselors to help you. (If you are going to be baptized, you do not need to bring anything. Everything is provided for you.)
Q: Is Crossroads affiliated with the Disciples of Christ (Christian Churches) in America? ▾
A: No. We are a non-denominational, completely autonomous, Bible-believing, Bible-teaching church.
Q: I understand Crossroads is a debt free church and encourages others to live debt free, Do I have to be debt free to get connected as a member? ▾
A: No. But we would love for all of our people to be debt free. We encourage you to take advantage of the many great resources available in our bookstore to help you get started on the road to becoming debt free.
Q: Does Crossroads have a school? ▾
A: No. But having one is a part of our long-term plans.
Q: Does Crossroads have a ministry for people who’ve been through a divorce? ▾
